How it affects your trading

The instruments that move most are those tied to the yen: USDJPY, EURJPY, GBPJPY, and the JP225 index. With more volatility, the same risk allows fewer lots: size the trade with the lot size calculator. Every meeting of the four major central banks is in the central bank calendar 2027.

How to read the decision

For years the Bank of Japan kept rates very low, which made the yen the funding currency for many carry trades: borrowing in yen to invest in higher-yielding currencies. That is why any hint of a rate hike can trigger sharp yen moves as those positions unwind. If the yen moves very fast, Japan may intervene in the currency market: the Ministry of Finance decides, the central bank carries it out, and there is no announced date.

Sizing example: on USD/JPY one pip on a standard lot is ¥1,000, about $6.67 with the dollar at ¥150. With a $10,000 account, 1% risk and a 40-pip stop, about 0.37 lots fit.
