    Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between static and trailing drawdown?

Static is a floor that never moves: on a $100,000 account with a 10% static drawdown, you can never go below $90,000. Trailing rises with your highest balance: if you reach $104,000, the floor moves to $94,000. Many firms lock it at the initial balance once it gets there.

How is the daily loss limit calculated?

Usually it is the balance (or equity) at the start of the day minus a percentage of the initial balance. At FTMO, on a $100,000 account with a 5% limit, if you start the day at $102,000 your equity can’t go below $97,000 that day.

Do floating losses count toward the limits?

At most firms, yes: limits are monitored on equity, which includes open trades, swaps and commissions. A stop filled with slippage counts too, so leave some room.
